Paris shopping

When Im in Paris, my first shopping destination is always Tara Jarmon on Rue St Honoré. The three stories shop is never disappointing. This time, I came out empty handed but full with inspiration. The Parisian spring tendencies are colorful, sixties patterns and pastel hues in nuances from peach, nude, pink and off white.

Raspberry pink and bright blue

Sixties patterns

Soft pink hues on clothing and accessories

I am also always on the look for shoes and hanbags when I am in Paris. First, my travel budget seems to be different from my home one (not because I'm richer abroad but because I blame iron the exchange rate math problem) and second, both the selections and the interest for these items are massive. I had a short break on Saturday evening so I spent half an hour at the Lafayette shoe court. I tried a few things in but nothing really had me in love. One of my favorite French brands Cosmoparis who makes very elegant shoes at a decent price offered inspiration with soft lavender color requiring a massive pastel wardrobe.

Soft lavender shoes and bag

These office shoes I tried on without success. Maybe sometimes the urge to shop is larger than the need to shop?

The top ones in nude seemed interesting. And in hot pink. But no purchase.

Finally at the airport, when I had given up the idea of shopping, I stopped by the little Hermes shop. And they had just got a refill of everything. I bought two accessories there that I have been looking for quite some time now!

Obsession/Inspiration part 2

If you missed the first part, you can read it here.

So I cried. And obsessed. And spent hours searching on Internet for them. But the more I browsed, the more I was starting to think that maybe the lace-up would not be so flattering on me after all. I am a size 39, so it might look a bit boat shaped. And the shoes cost around 900 Euros, mind you. So it would be a fortune spent to look like a boat.

But then, brilliance hits me. I was busy preparing this post with the shoe collage at polyvore, when I came across these shoes. Since I am a sucker for pink, obsession turned to inspiration. Two weeks later, this box arrived.

And inside the pink box, these little baby's had finally come to mama! Comfortable, flattering on the foot and 12 cm high heels made with love. I intend to style them just like Natalia Vodianova did to achieve the same effect.

And that's how obsession is best used for inspiration. Although I encourage you not to spend so much time of your life over it.

I know there are quite a few of you that come in and have a peek and I would love to have a sign from you. I suggest minimum three of you leave a comment saying I am crazy. If that happens, I will have a contest with my latest faulty purchase in the blog.

Now, time for dinner in Paris. Happy Sunday all!

Obsession/Inspiration part 1

Sometimes I get ideas in my head that stick forever and never go away. A long time ago I saw this picture of Natalia Vodianova on the cover of French Grazia wearing a peach and black outfit matched with Giambattista Valli grey python leather sandals. It is the kind of ten pointer I rarely come across, I think because my contemporary style has taught me to mismatch all together whereas my instinctive style leans toward perfect matching. For me, the shoes were a wild and completely fresh and modern take on a very classical outfit. Plus it was a cold color match against warm peachy tones and the harmony was unexpected and exciting

So the obsession began. I was looking everywhere for similar shoes. However, I had just recently indulged in a pair of python Guccis in a fall color palette and could not motivate myself to the extra splurge, specially since no woman needs to buy to pairs if python shoes in one week.

(I had also bought the bag in an extra crazy spur if the moment)

So the search begun. One year later I find these shoes at cocosa.com. They are out in my size. I cry. To be continued in the next post.

Weekend in Paris

I had the great fortune to accompany someone to Paris for a long weekend. Paris is one of my first city crushes and I have never quite replaced that love for another city.

Paris is style, fashion, ambiance and an international melting pot. In Paris, all the girls have perfect hairdoes and dress up at day and dress down at night. In Paris, every girl works hard to be able to own that Chanel or Celine bag. And every girl is envyous as every girl is worth envying. Whereas Rome and Milano are sexy, London is trendy and a bit of each, Paris is just chique and elegant. I always feel like the cousin from the country side when I am here, because no matter how hard I try and irrespective of how many of my fancy things I pack, I always look a little bit.... las season in comparison to others. It does not make it better that I am forced to wear a work attire as well.

Today, for a formal work lunch, I opted for my Vanessa Bruno skirt, a gucci belt paired with a white tee and a black velvet Tiger of Sweden jacket. Worn with my Louis Vuitton boots, and lacking a colourful palette, I felt a little bit more at home with the Parisian girls.

What is your favorite city and why?

Spring style: Daytime pumps and playtime sandals

Spring style: Daytime pumps and playtime sandals

Spring is fast approaching and I feel a sudden urge to brighten up my wardrobe colors, both day and night. I would wear all these amazing shoes, the top ones for work and the bottom ones for after work. The hot pink courts and the beige pumps can both be found at Zara, while the others are in a higher price range.

I love the ankle cuff sandals that are everywhere this spring. In fact I love them so much I got the bi-colored orange and nude ones from Zara in Berlin. BCBG Max Azria and Asos have a similar style with gold cuffs - great with an all white outfit for warmer days!

When I was browsing for shoes at Polyvore, I just had to stop a while and buy a pair. I will show them in another post because they didn't fit the styles above.

Are you getting shoes in your Easter eggs?

A Jacky Kennedy Spring Dress Outfit

Looking outside and seeing snow makes me depressed so I sit around and dream of spring outfits I could wear. If you change the flowered dress to a pencil grey dress this could be wearable in the office.

Would you wear this? Any items you would not touch?

The Pink Pencil Skirt

If you feel like updating your wardrobe office staples, you don't have to get too wild or modern to bring some fresh ideas in. I have just updated my black pencil skirt collection with this pink option which is thick enough to wear in early spring but bright enough of a pastel not to feel like a winter item. This skirt was at around 30 euros. How would you wear it?

That 70's show

As soon as my Zara skirt is delivered I will wear it with a Miu Miu leather jacket, a Gucci 1973 suede bag and the orange and nude Zara sandals. Obviously not to the office. What do you think?

MIA

The problem about having an office blog is that there is normally an office job behind. This job has taken over my life lately and I have made you, dear blog, suffer.

I have been equipped with technical devices that will enable posting on the go! Hang in there.

Morning routine

Am I strange to browse through a few blogs and Instagram before getting dressed in the morning? While having my coffee?

I think it's the perfect way to figure out what dress mood I am in. And yes, long forgotten is the weekly dressing schedule - I can sense spring and I want to be spontaneous!

Happy Tuesday!

About me

I am noticing more visitors to the blog every day! For all you newcomers, this is a little bit about me

  • I can't accomplish anything in the morgning without my first coffee

  • I am an organized mess, meaning I have piles of things everywhere but I know exactly what I keep in them

  • I am a lawyer admitted to the bar association

  • My favourite colour is pink. Obviosuly, I can't wear that as much as I'd like.

  • I have a tendency to shop more when I am feeling low or stressed.

  • I am a frequent traveller. This blog has not seen much of it though.

  • I use to have a ravaging fear of dogs. Until I was gifted one for my 25th birthday.

  • My secret wish is to be funny.

  • I'm a lousy chef but a great guest ;).

  • If I was free to do anything I wanted, I would quit my job and do something fashion related full time. This blog is a first start.

Accessories shopping

And while I was at my unexpected shopping spree yesterday, I managed to get a burgendy and gold bracelet as well. I think I can wear it with my vintage Hermès cadena bracelet today. Stop in on my instagram to say if you like it > fashion_lawyer!

Can you guess which one of the items it is?

His & Hers

I was just going to the gym - I swear - and then I walked by a shop just to browse. And I came out with two Alexander McQeen scarves. Both on 70% sale! The right one is white with burgendy or purple-ish razers on it (morbid - I know) and I figure I can wear it at work to bring some colour to a burgendy dress hoping no-one will figure out the pattern. And the black one with white details on it, well - my boyfriend pinched when I got home. There you go, ladies and gentlement: his & hers.

Saturday shopping spree

Hello from the dressing room in Burberry Prorsum rabbit felt cloche hat, H&M coat, faux fur stole and my weekend Balenciaga bag (with no room for a computer)!

Normally I am not a fan of shopping during weekends, specially not on Saturdays when the entire city have come up with the same brilliant idea. But yesterday, I was in luck!

It was not a planned spree but I happened to drop into one of those shops I never visit and it turned out they had a few selected items from my favourite brand, Tara Jarmon. And it was all on sale! And even better, on 70% sale. So I ended up making the following purchases:

A white basic high qaulity top from Tiger of Sweden

A grey short draped skirt from Tiger of Sweden

and a Tara Jarmon coat not too different from the H&M coat I was already wearing

front with bow tie details on the pockets

Back with details

The reason for a purchase very similar to what I alreaady have is because the H&M coat was purchased at 40 Euros and I was not expecting the quality to last for very long, although I absolutely love the leather detailing on the collar. So why not replace a winning concept with another one, very similar?

H&M coat to be thrown out.

Any successful shopping on your end?

All work and not play

....makes Jack a dull boy. This week I've been Jack, and therefore a dull boy. Plenty of work at the office and no time to play at all.

On the bright side of things, my weekly dressing planning is working out better than expected. Last week, I had to make a few last minute alterations given unexpected client meetings by the end of the week, requiring a sleeker, smarter outfit, whereas in the beginning of the week it was more desk work and long hours, requiring maximum comfort.

I update my daily pics on my instagram, fashion_lawyer, so if you are tired of waiting for my next post, you know where to go.

So long and happy Saturday!

Wonderful Wednesday

Oh my. Today I deviated from my dressing plan. I always had a hunch that my camel Gerard Darel suit was a little old fashioned in the cut. And the wool a little bit itchy. And maybe my tummy doesn't look so flattering in it. But frankly, I wouldn't quite know, because I never really wore it before. I mean, I tried it on, but not wore wore it, if you know what I mean.

So it made me think I should try a different pair of pants this morning. A pair that has been hanging in my closet ever since I could not resist buying it during the Paris sales last year ( - or was it two years ago? I forget). But. I did the unforgivable, I bought them although they could barely fit and only close with force and not look so comfortable. I don't do that - I am too mature and too self appreciative and not self-deceptive enough. But I did.

But THIS MORNING! I was able to wear the pants, and they looked great, I looked great, and I felt great! It means that my new work-out routine is paying off and I love it.

So what about my work wear schedule? I stuck to it for the black shirt. Well almost, at least, since I chose a black Mango knitted short sleeved top with a bowtie on the side and a Zara blazer that has a very similar checked pattern. I hopped into my sexy mode Zara suede pumps with a "cleavage" and I love it! And I love my mirror image - is that even allowed?

Ok, now that I see it, it doesn't look that special. But close are more the feeling thy give us than what they actually make us look like. Some better quality on my blog pictures for the future perhaps?

We love animalprints!

It's funny to see, the pictures on my Instagram (fashion_lawyer) that get the most likes always have animal prints in them. So I take animal prints are popular.

Animal prints are not for everyone, and they are not always for work.

I try and limit my work wear to include either my Gucci Icon Bit Hobo bag

Or to my Gucci python peeptoes in the same leather (maybe even from the same snake?)

But in private a go crazy and besides my Current/Elliot Zebra jeans as worn before

I now added to my collection a pair of snake skin print jeans from Mango, bought on sale at 50% off!

What do you think - is it all just crazy and non-wearable? Which is your favourite? What animal do you prefer on print?

Client dinner in DvF

Last night I was invited to a client dinner. I rushed home from work, showered and freshened up, and jumped into my Diane von Furstenburg burgondy wool dress. I realize the setting for the picture is not the best with all the laundry behind, but this is what I captured.

The red leather Hermès Kelly Cadena bracelet and the black Hermès clic clac bracelet were on as usual.

It is important to have a set of clothes that you can wear outside of the office, but for work related activities. My evening wear for a night out on town with my friends looks very different from that of a client dinner with people from different nationalities, cultures and ages. I recommend you to invest in a dress which is easy to wear and elegant at the same time in the perfect length, preferably with a sleeve so you don't feel naked or exposed in case you find yourself in a situation for example with only men.

I love the back as seen below:

Terrific Tuesday!

I am loving this weekly office wear fashion planning! I succeeded today as well, with one minor adjustment - no white scarf as its silver details would not match with the gold buttons of the Massimo Dutti shirt (read this post on office warderobe staples for more on my silk blouses under 60 Euros).

Instead, I wore my new Hermès vintage Kelly H Cadena bracelet on one hand and my Hermès black and gold clic clac on the other.

I hopped out of my Louis Vuitton boots and changed to my Cosmoparis blue suede pumps at the office.

What do you think? Too sloppy? Too strict? Nothing in particular?

Office warderobe staples

I am always out hunting for silk blouses, shirts or tops that cost under 60 Euros. Why? Because it is a great way of keeping your office outfit smart and chic with the normally very flattering shape and luxurious feel of silk. And below 60 Euros, i feel like I can take the risk and not send it to the dry cleaner and wash at home instead. Either by hand, using specially designated silk soap, or in the machine, in a laundry bag in order to avoid frictions with other garnments or other silk blouses, on a cold silk program. Then I iron it on reverse.

These are few of my most frequently worn under 60 Euro silk blouses. True, they may not be in store right now, but my general tip is to always keep eyes open for them.

White silk top with bowtie from Massimo Dutti.

Cream silk top with blue details on the collar and on the back, with golden buttons in the back, Massimo Dutti.

Successful Monday!

I was almost successful in following Monday's planned work wear!

I had planned to wear a black pencil skirt, an orange silk top and a peach coloured cashemere cardigan ontop.

This is what I wore:

As you can see, I decided to skip the peach coloured cardigan as it simply didn't match. I had an idea that it would look fresh and nice together in combination with the orange, but it simply took colour off my face and from the silk blouse.

Please excuse my thick pantyhose which are quite rarely used, but in this cold weather I felt I had to either go with that or with trousers.

Since I got no suggestions, my only accessories were my nails in Chanel Orangefizz coloure and my black Hermès cliq-claq, so until tomorrow's outfit I hope for some suggestions.

What do you think about this one?
